Niarbyl – Summer 2010 in the Isle of Man
Sunset at Port Erin Heather on hills Druidale
Day 1
The summer months witness plenty of activity around the island’s coastline. At the south of the island we have beautiful steep cliffs, with a rugged footpaths to walk, here there's an excellent opportunity to capture some breathtaking views.
The chasms being approx 300 ft above sea level gives spectacular views of the sugarloaf rock. Many breeds of birds nest here, so with some patients and a brave heart to go near the cliff edge you may capture some chicks of various breeds. (Optional if you are scared of heights, telephoto lense essential) There are many other features to photograph if you are not comfortable going so close.
Cregneash Village, a quaint traditional working village will be visited giving the opportunity to photograph an array of images from thatched roof cottages, people in traditional dress, you may even find the resident Manx Cat in the grounds. Traditional hay stacks create extra foreground interest. Many local artists come here to paint the pictureque views.
The calf sound, a popular stopping place for visitors. The Calf of Man is a small unihabited island just off the mainland. (access by sea only) Many people come here to spot Basking sharks, seals, and the plentiful birdlife, so if you have a telephoto lens you may be able to capture a little something extra. Winding footpaths can lead you to many a vantage point to get a great seascape shot.
Niarbyl with it's spectacular views will be our final destination for the day.(The film waking Ned was set here). There is a Cafe/ restuarant here so we can dine whilst drinking in the wonderful views. Plasma screens showing a short film on this beautiful island as you eat. Here we will set up our tripods for sunset. Being on the south west coast we will have the pleasure of a tranquil setting for our sunset.
Day 2
One of the 17 Glens with waterfalls will be visited. Here we can put your skills to the test by using neutral density filters to show what different effects they can have on your images. Filters slow your shutter speeds to create that wonderful milky effect on water. If you have a macro lense, we will have the opportunity to capture what lies beneath us.from flowers to insects. We will have a leisurely lunch as the sun is too bright for landscapes this time of day. We will make our way back to the accommodation and take the opportunity to view some of your images you have taken so far. If you have shot in Raw, you will be shown how to convert your images in a Raw convertor using Photoshop Elements, adjust exposure, white balance if necesary, before opening up the image to enhance before saving the final masterpiece. A break to freshen up before dinner then straight onto our destination for sunset. Peel directly on the West Coast of the island is named sunset city as there are some fantastic skies are to be viewed by all. Peel castle is a favourite feature to capture as the sun disappears into the horizon. Set on Patrick's Isle this ancient fortress & castle dates back to the 1oth Century. The coast of Creg Malin display magical lighting but beware of the incoming tide. If we are lucky we may see some seals and it has been known for basking sharks to come into the bay. Once the sun has set we will drive back to your B&B for the night.
Day 3
After a good nights rest you will transported to the airport/sea terminal for your journey home. We hope you will have had a great time here on this fantastic island, and will return again in the future.
